Friend of Friends, Born Free

While trying to figure out a little mystery discovered on an early Southampton County Virginia marriage license, I stumbled upon this record.  The name that I was researching, Wilborne (Wilborn) Stephenson appears in this record, which was indexed the Brantley Association of America web page of Southampton County Virginia records.  This comes from the Court Minute Book, 1848 to 1855, page 406.

I have attempted a transcription, I think I have it right, however, if you spot something in error, please let me know and I will correct it!

Ordered that the clerk register Mary Crocker, Temperance Nicholson, Hester Bailey, Hannah Bailey, Jno Crocker Jr., Franky Hargrave, Julie Hargrave, & Gilbert Roberts who were proved to have been born free in this County by Alfred J. Brittle. Edna Whitney & Alfred Jones who were proved to have been born free in this County by Wilborn Stephenson. Willis Hicks who was proved to have been born free in this County by James Holmes. Malinda Holloway who was proved to have been born free in this County by John Pretlow. Anthony Burrough or Ricks who was proved to have been born free in this County by Alfred Ricks, Amos Warren, Sandy Bailey, William Nicholson, Betsey Newsom, Lucinda Brown, Dick Jones, Josiah Whitney, Britton Davis, Parthena Roberts, Everett, Joyner, Silkey Diggs & Lydia Ann Diggs who were born free in this County as appears from their former registers.
