2013 Thankful November

Copyright 2013, CABS for Reflections From the Fence

During the month of November, many over at Facebook participated in a daily meme of "I am thankful for".

Here is the entire month, less the first day which I did not join in the meme and November 2, which Facebook ate.

Nov 2, 2013

FB ate the Thanks for today.

Nov 3, 2013

Right now, this very moment, this morning, I am thankful for

BLUE SKIES and BRILLIANT SUNSHINE!

(Oh, and since lots of leaves fell the last few days, I can almost see the swamp back there, deer, ducks, geese, sand hill cranes, wild turkey, - - - )

Nov 4, 2013

Thankful

For all the support Man and I get from family, and friends, when when we are in a rough patch!

YOU ARE ALL TERRIFIC, THE BEST, WOW!

Thank you.

Nov 5, 2013

Today I am thankful for violets. They make me smile.

Nov 6, 2013

I am thankful today for rainy weather. (Yea, me! IMAGINE that!)

It is giving Man another day to be totally quiet for healing. He is feeling better, but this will keep him quiet.

It gives me time to attack the email project and/or file stuff in the office (the piles just will NOT file themselves, dang it!)

I am also thankful that our Mr. G has now reached 4 years survival after diagnoses. 4 years ago they said, pre-heart and pre-renal failure, 12 to 18 months. He has amazed everyone. That said, we do see further decline, he sleeps more, but, let it be dinner time?? and, you would think he is only 2 years old, not 14.5 years. We are truly thankful for each wake up to have him still here.

Nov 7, 2013

Today, I think I shall be thankful for electricity. It brings me lights at night (telie too), my computer (love/hate relationship, eh? LOL) It keeps my food fresh in the frig and freezer. It cooks my food (electric stove and microwave). It charges my batteries (for the toys, not my body batteries! LOL) It puts the garage door up and down via the push of a button. It will even alarm my home. It will dry my hair. It does lots more for me

AND

it will warm my bed with electric blankies. That may be the bestest, most comfy, deeelightful.

Nov 8, 2013

Today, despite my multiple and ongoing rants concerning the failures and frustrations of Yahoo and Gmail, I am thankful for their FAILS.

Yea, really!

Cause it is forcing me to finally clean out all that old email and DO SOMETHING with it.

This is a VERY good thing!

So, with a smirk and a wink, with a bit of whispered sarcasm,

THANK YOU YAHOO AND GMAIL! For forcing the issue. My data base thanks you!

Nov 9, 2013

Today, I am thankful for

1.) Sun

2.) Sun

3.) Sun

CHUCKLE

4.) Stretches in the morning before I climb out of zzzz land. They really can be delightful if you perfect them, sorta like a kitten, take your time, - - - stretch.

5.) The smell of coffee. MMMMM.

6.) The delight of going back to zzzz land a few times before I start # 4.

Nov 10, 2013

Today, I am thankful for:

1.) Rest, that has helped that icky hip thingy that was going on last night.

2.) More importantly: FOOD

3.) Stoves, microwaves, ovens and assorted grills that prepare # 2.

((But, WHERE is the cook? Our cook is MIA. OHHH, we are supposed to do the cooking?? Rats, that's just no fun!))

4.) Thankful that we still can do that cooking, even tho we don't exactly love the process. — feeling blessed.

Nov 11, 2003

Today, I am thankful for,

(Sit down, I'll bet you are not going to believe this! LOL)

TECHNOLOGY!

Yes, I am, even tho I have the strongest love/hate relationship with same.

1.) Thankful for our air card that keeps me connected, most of the time. I forgive it the 20 gigs a month limitation and speed issues that most of the time keep me from participating in webinars and Google Hangouts live. I am connected, and I am NOT standing in a phone booth with a quarter, a phone cord and dial up to local AOL, if AOL number can be located locally.

2.) My laptop. Portable, can do so much, books, photos, research recording, memory making.

3.) Scanners, especially my new little sheet scanner, which I have just discovered also does legal sized paper. Did you hear my yelps of delight??

4.) Sony Too, saving my memories, much better at saving than I am! LOL

5.) Fab software that takes all these fun things and works for me so I can show, share (or not). I love the creative outlet, and that all of this work is right there - - > on the laptop!

6.) External hard drives, which give me a bit of peace of soul, having the work saved on three is somewhat reassuring.

7.) iToys, need I say more??

8.) Photocopy machines that I used for years in my research. Those massive amounts of paper sometimes hold secretes, my job is to retrieve them over the next few years, tweaking, improving, and scanning!

9.) Fab websites. Gathering of friends with similar interests. And, wonderful research sites with photos, document images and more. Thank you Shelby County Tennessee. Found something very cool there last night. Found some obituaries lately too, via web sites. OHH, what wondrous things for researchers in the last 15 years, give or take. Can't wait for MORE!

10.) Man, who helps me keep this stuff all going! And, when I need new, knowing what my needs are, buys me the bestest stuff.

Yep, thankful for technology, my worst friend and my best enemy.

Now, that I have thanked ya, please behave today - - just sayin - -

Nov 12 2013

Today I am thankful for the almost 70 family books I have accessed in my research over the last 20 plus years. (There are of course, more than 70, but, at least 70 provided information worthy of my recording their names.)

Thankful for the thousands of hours and who knows how much money these compilers spent collecting family history, tracing the lineages. Without their work, their advantages of living when the ancestors lived, having personal contact/letters with many, sometimes knowing what the records left behind do not reveal - - personal stories!

Thankful for these and more, compilers of the family names of: Halterman, Basye, Trumbo, Holsinger, Lashbrook, Jaquis, Darden, Whitmer and more, many, many more.

Nov 13, 2013

Today, I remain thankful. For much. For big stuff. For small trite stuff.

There are many bad things in the world, horrible horrific things. I ache for those suffering.

And, in their honor, I go seeking trite insignificant things to be thankful for.

Nov 14, 2013

Today I am thankful for color. Color feeds my soul. Talking rich, deep, vibrant color.

Pale pink does not do it for me, give me a deep hot pink. Lilac, not so much, make it deep rich royal purple, and now, we are talking.

I crave color, I must have color, I feast my eyes on color, almost inhaling. Textures enhance the color. Drama in the landscape doesn't hurt my feelings either! LOL

Today, I am thankful for color, and it is one of the reasons that Monument Valley is one of my favorite places we have visited in the last few years. And, yes, I dream of going back, so I can try to get photos in full sun.

Here, texture, drama, clouds, distance creating a misty feel in the background,

and, color! Thankful for color and how it fills my soul.

November 15, 2013

Thankful for those that teach.

Returning to my pile of sand.

Taking my coffee with me.

Today, I am also thankful for pain. It tells me I am still kicking and alive.

Returning, once again to the sandpiles.

November 16, 2013

Today, I am thankful for volunteers.  They give much of themselves, they rarely receive even so much as a thank you.  They make our world better, at their expense.

THEY ROCK!

Be kind and generous with volunteers, or face losing them.  They walk when mistreated  too many times.  Then, we all lose.

Thank you ALL volunteers, you enhance my life and a simple thanks, well, it is NOT enough.  It will have to suffice.  It is said with all of my heart and soul.

I am thankful for volunteers.

November 17, 2013

It's a see, err, "C", sorta day.

Today, I am thankful for:

Coffee, creativity, cooperation and, yes, even the computer.

Also thankful for those that cook, clean, and cater.

I am sure there are more, but, my brain is only on 35% creative, as I need more coffee, cause I've been cooking and cleaning.

Ccccccccccccc ya later - - send the caterer, find em on the computer, thank you for your cooperation.

November 18, 2013

Today, I may be thankful for Zcam and similar products. And, visits to the land of zzzzzzzz.

Blech.

Later - -

November 19, 2013

Today, I am thankful for:

Choices, the freedom to make choices.

Right or wrong, for me, they are my choices and I get to make them.

CHOICES!

November 20, 2013

Today, I am thankful for some quiet time/days/weeks to review my research, to scan, to organize.

The discoveries being re-discovered are mind numbing.

November 21, 2013

Today I am thankful for

Unsubscribe

buttons.

Reducing the irritating, email hogging junk.

UNSUBSCRIBE

Thankful, yes, I am.

November 22, 2013

Thankful for indexes.

Especially in my data base.

They do not tell me however, WHY I have this 1881 Canadian census printed out.

WHO are these people??

Well, no matter, I still am thankful for indexes everywhere!

November 23, 2013

Today, I think I am thankful for quiet mornings. Actually, I am very thankful for quiet mornings. I don't do mornings well or gracefully, just ask anyone who has had the displeasure of living with me. I scowl a lot in the mornings.

SOOO, to have the opportunity to start slow, sipping (or slurping coffee depending on how much I need the brew) coffee, a little online time (ok, a LOT of online time), wonderful web sites to pursue, friends to chat with via email, PM's, FB. All good stuff.

And, sometimes I even find some fun genie thing. Sometimes I even write a blog post (ya, I know, it's been a while, for that I am sorry, I'll be back, sooner than later I hope).

Yep, quiet is a great thing. After enough, sometimes, some days, I actually begin to function. (Now, watch what cha say, I know, I know, function is a matter of judgement on my side of the fence.)

And, now, I shall creep away and be quiet again.  (Wink, wink.)

November 24, 2013

Today, I am thankful for:

Headphones so that Man can watch the telie and I don't have to listen.

Cooks in restaurants that feed us when we are low on groceries and low on desire to cook our own meals.

Friends that keep me laughing and praying. Both good things.

November 25, 2013

Thankful for all the gifts I have, realizing that they could be gone tomorrow.

November 26, 2013

Today, I am thankful for interests that seriously challenge that thing some call my brain (hold those snarky comments, I know, I know - - LOL)

Things that challenge me, like really lousy indexing at the popular genie web sites, can be a blessing, if you just readjust your thinking. (Took me till JUST NOW to finally get this, DUH to me.)

They do lousy indexing, I have to crank the ole brain power into over time creative. My brain is sooooo busy with the creative indexing and the MIA ancestors (they are hiding, yes, they ARE!), that I do not have time to brood over things that I cannot change or control.

Yes, indeedy, challenges are healthy for me.

I am thankful for those brain busting, energy sapping, challenges my hobbies provide.

November 27, 2013

Thankful for food to prepare today.

Will be more thankful tomorrow when we can share it with our sons and their families.

So thankful for their continued friendships with each other, support of each other, good times and bad. (And, just a weeee bit proud of ALL of them, they have ethics, they are warm, caring adults.)

Thankful for my family.

Thankful for the food to prepare. You know the saying, "there but for the grace of God go I". Remembering those less fortunate. Yes, I am thankful.

November 28, 2013

Today I am thankful that it is our American Thanksgiving Day.

We have a dusting of snow (could have skipped that, aka, slippery roads, sigh).

I can reveal that the pumpkin pie is delish. Hehehe

Playing with Legacy 8 while I sip on my morning coffee, downloading sans the Deluxe key was a great idea. I can snoop, tweak, mess, snoop some more. Need to figure out how to access the general notes each and every time. Gotta be operator error, right, especially before coffee is finished and the caffeine has motivate the ole blood and brain cells! LOL

OKKKK, We are off

Have a great turkey day!

November 29, 2013

Today I was thankful for sun and moderate temperatures, that the furnace in Tana started and that I have more time to get all this stuff IN Tana and stowed. Whew!

November 30, 2013

I am thankful today that is the last day of thankful November. I am thankful for so many blessings, but writing them down every day is a challenge, and I tried to make each day a bit different, so I had to dig deep, past the obvious ! Such as electricity. Oh, I am very thankful for electricity EVERY day, however to say so would start to sound like a holiday song we know, twelve days - - - see, we don't want to go there do we? Nah.

So being challenged to find something different to be thankful for each day was interesting, I would start a mental list, warm home, food, sun, and so forth, even though I dismissed many things each day, I did note them to myself daily. So I was thankful, even if I did not say so here in the public arena.

I missed the first day and FB ate one of the early days, I figure I have 28 thankful posts.

Today I am thankful for ALL the blessings I enjoy. Thankful for who I am and the talents my Maker has granted me. Thankful for the challenges and lessons I am gifted with. Thankful that I am not living the sadness I see many living, lack of enough food, homes, family to love them, hobbies to challenge and make them happy.

I am thankful for MY life, rants, bad days, good days, blessings. Thankful to be ME.

I Love this! Thank you for the reminders to be thankful for the everyday things in life. You've made me realize how much I take for granted and how I don't always have an attitude of gratitude. I am thankful for colour too, and especially thankful to be able to see your extraordinary photo of Monument Valley. Thanks so very much Carol!
