Yukon, A Day Full of Unusual Fun Stuff And Sun: The Estate Takes on Alaska

Wake at 4 am.  Ooopsie. Man too. We both stayed in bed till just after 7 and were on the road by 9. 54 degrees as we pulled out.  And. It’s not raining. We can actually see more than a mile out.

We stopped at the Alaska/Yukon border this time for photos. So, a month late, here it is, we have arrived in Alaska!  LOL

I kid you not, we went 30 days in Alaska and other than the eagles and bunnies in Valdez, we saw NO wildlife. 20 minutes into the Yukon, TWO moose, standing in the middle of the road!  Just strolling along - -

And, then!!  They turned and looked at me!  WOW!  I was driving so I was driving, trying to get as close as I could, watching for any oncoming traffic (there was none, there rarely is, its barren out here) and taking photos!  I know. LOL  At one point Man took the steering wheel.  We were rather excited and silly!!!

And, just like that, they turn and head for the woods - -

Man took the camera and shot this one in the field - - looks like he speared himself with some plant matter, I can promise you, he did not.

By noon Alaska time we approached Yukon customs. Standard questions. Asked if we had a dog, yepper. He was amazed at how quiet Sir W was, mentioning little pooches usually are noisy. I mentioned he was crated.  Asked if he had vaccinations, but did not ask for proof. Other standard questions, how long in Canada, liquor, he even wanted to know what kind of liquor by brand.  LOL. Tobacco?  Cannabis? Guns, tobacco, etc.  Asked my license plate number, seems they cannot see too well with their cameras or are just checking. The handy dandy printed card I made with sizes ( in meters and feet), weight (both in pounds and metric) and the license plate info has been so useful, one of those things I did that has really paid off.

Time zone change.  Also changed the GPS to metric.

Caravans are still arriving. The fireweed has topped off here, 6 weeks till snow?

Passed the fire that had shut down the road for a day or so in early July, just after we arrived. You could see where it jumped the road.

I spied this pontoon plane. I kinda thought he was getting lined up to land in one of the lakes that we were passing by.  We were headed for a rest area for lunch, imagine my delight when I discovered he had landed in the very lake we were lunching at!  The plane weighs 1000 pounds. It has fabric sides. This plane is one of the most popular bush hopper. He quoted $20,000.00 per person to fly you in for moose hunting in the bush.

Lunch. I was so impressed with this guy cooking his lunch.  He was so organized.  Toast the bread first, then the meat, then something else, and last, cook a few eggs. He just sat there so calmly cooking away.  What a joy to watch.

Drove miles without seeing any other vehicles, coming at us or behind us.

Drove to Destruction Bay, fueled up.

Kluane Lake - - so pretty.  This time, not nearly the smoke as last time.

Went another 12 miles or so to Congdon Creek Campground Provincial, Yukon Territory, sitting along side Kluane Lake. $12.00 Canadian. No hookups. But after some fiddling around we are in. With a lake view and. Sun!!!   The Estate is so small we can pull into the site instead of backing in, thus affording ourselves a nice view through the trees (no photo to share, sorry.)

Took Sir W for a long walk around the campground, other than the lake lots this place is deserted.  We had heard several times that you needed to be here by 2 to get any campsite. Not so today, of course it is a Tuesday.

Took our 5 o’clock’s down to the beach and sat in our lawn chairs for well over an hour, listening to the lake gently lap against the shore line.

It's time to call it a day, and head back to The Estate.

It’s been a very good day.    We drove 237 miles.

It gently rained over night.
