Rained all night, again, and all morning, again.  We slept late and then basically, stayed in bed!  I did some computer work, preparing a blog post.

Sometime around noonish, give or take an hour, the rain subsided for more than 10 minutes and we decided to grab lunch, fuel up, visit another museum, the “Old Town Site” .  This place was basically one room.  They also showed a great movie about Valdez and it's long and tragic history.  Earthquake and oil spill won't keep these strong willed determined people down.

The fire truck was neat.

The first barrel of oil to arrive in Valdez, via sled dogs and sled in April of 1975 after a 49 day run from Fairbanks.

This is part of a model of Old Town Valdez, 20:1 scale, took 2 years to build, finished in 1999, by one Susan Fowler.  It was amazing. The attention to detail was astonishing.

Due to the ferry strike, there were no ferries that we saw, we did see these coming into the harbor:

We also drove by the Old Town Site, which was abandoned in 1967 after moving the entire town about 4 miles to its current location.  These stubs are the remainder of the piers that were destroyed in the 1964 earthquake.

Last, we drove out to the Valdez glacier.

Floating ice from the glacier. Lots of gravel the glacier drug around for years.

Yes, he had to see how cold it was.  It was cold.  Like sticking your hands in a bowl of ice cubes and water he said.

There is some of that blue.

We were only out and about for 4 or 5 hours, but, the museum was very interesting and the glacier was more than worth the drive up.

Back at camp, we had a couple of hours of no rain, but, by 6:45, it was coming down again.
