Fourth of July, Tok Alaska Style: The Estate Takes on Alaska

We decided we needed to go to town and watch the parade and the festival and partake.  So, we did.  And, we stayed most of the day.  Good BBQ pork and brisket for lunch.  A taste of goat’s milk ice cream.  Great music.  Local families enjoying the festival.  Most peeps dressed in red, white and blue.

First the parade, the color guard - -

Followed by a wide ranging collection of floats, vehicles, kids walking their dogs- -

The moose with the shades - - one cool dude for sure - -

And near the end of the parade look who showed up - -

And, here is his "ride", do you recognize it?  Check yesterday's blog here at Reflections - -

The parade ended at the festival site and this "smoky" guy was seen all about, dancing and giving out hugs - -

There was a greased pole contest, the goal is to grab a clothe near the top.  Now, being a mom of sons, I can tell you, I am glad my boys never played such a game, and I can also tell you that I would not even attempt to launder their clothes, right in the garbage bin they go!  That said those kids had a blast.

This is the oreo cookie eating contest. They have a time (1 minute?) to eat as many cookies as they can.  One at a time, not more than one in your mouth at a time.  You know, oreos are kinda dry without the milk.  The kids gave it a try tho, great fun was had.  Oh, this round, the only female contestant, won, she ate four cookies.

The last contest I have photos are is the out house race - - well, mmmm - - okkkk, so teams of 2 men and 1 woman compete.  There were 4 or 5 times. The gal climbs into the outhouse and the dudes run and pull it down the way.  At the end, there is a large trash can holding a flag.  The gal has to get out of the outhouse, grab the flag, get back into the outhouse and the guys rush back to the point of beginning.

There was a band, well, one gal and one fellow, and wahoo, could they play!!  We actually sat in The Estate for a while just listening, no need to leave when there are good tunes.  There was a BBQ contest, ice cream, food, good food.  There were some local artists/vendors.

We did not hear one cherry bomb, firecracker, guns being shot or fireworks on the 4th. We spent the evening in peace and blissful quiet.
