We arrived in Tusayan early afternoon, had time to set up, and drive to the park for a few hours, scope it out for the next 2 full days of visitation. We happened to arrive during pre-Easter week, always busy, and it was also "free" week, which added to the crowds. They say it gets about 5 times busier in the summer. Goodness! I guess it is gonna be busy if you put 4.5 million visitors a year through the gates. WOW! Course, this is the GRAND Canyon, (South Rim) so every thing is going to be big and grand.
First stop the Visitor's Center, chatted with a nice and very informative staff member, gave us the scoop on the buses (you cannot drive in parts of the park, buses take you in and out, stop here and there, you can get on and off at your whim). We took a short walk out for our first view of the Canyon right behind the Visitor's Center.
So, here are the best of the best taken during our "get acquainted" afternoon at the Grand Canyon National Park. It is a bit difficult to wrap our brains around the fact that the other side of the canyon is sometimes 10 miles away, and that it is 1 mile deep. There is a bit of haze in most of the photos taken the first day at the canyon. Most photos have been edited, sharpened, contrast improved, brightness adjusted, the basic editing.
* Our first day at Grand Canyon National Park was April 19, 2011.
