I really need a LOT more coffee before my brain will kick out all these relationships. Got charts anyone??
From the January 27, 1897 issue of the Michigan Messenger, Adrian, Lenawee County, Michigan:
"A little over two years ago there was a wedding in Rollin, when the bride was made to call her grandmother mother-(in-law). Now there is a new complication, for at Cadmus in the home of the said bride, Mrs. Willis Post, (nee Elnora Sloan) is a baby girl who will call Mrs. N.S. Post, (nee Mrs. Murphy) great grandmamma, or what shall it be. Oh, of course, L.L. Sloan and wife are proud to be just plain grandpa and grandma."
*This article will be part of a new book I am formatting for the Lenawee County Family Researchers, "Michigan Messenger, Volume III, 1897 - 1897". Available date will depend on how this formatting stuff comes along, when I get back to SE Michigan and how it all looks when I run a test print of it.

Okay, that just makes my head hurt. I wish you much good luck with this one.
I've been searching the Irish newspaper archives for the last week and haven't come across anything quite so cryptic, so now I can't complain.
Cheers to you Carol :):)
Jennifer
Good Morning to you Jennifer.
The only good part about this, is I do NOT have to figure it out, because it is NOT my family.
Too funny. I'm really glad you don't have to figure that one out, although it could be very interesting.
Love it - these crazy relationships pop up sometimes and make you need to chart it all out! I'd be putting a tot in my coffee, I'm sure!
I think it's going to take more than coffee! I don't think I even want to try to figure this out.
Cheryl, I just spent four days in a variety of meetings and I'm just getting back to my couch potato status -- interrupted by a trip to the gym most days. Hope all is well with you and your friend.
Did she marry her uncle?
I am glad too, but, I let this stew around in the dark recesses of my mind for a bit, I think I agree with Marti, she married her uncle.
If someone wants to do the research, I would love to hear if that is correct. No, I cannot do it right now. Gotta format that book! :-)
Crazy is right, I thought it was bad when I realized my great-grandparents had the same great-grandparents. Yes, they were 2nd cousins.
Thanks, RVing friend has been released from the hospital.
I don't want to figure this out either! LOL
Marti, I believe so, at least after a bit of thought, that was exactly what I came up with. See comments to Barb, above.
I must have been looking at the wrong newspapers this weekend! This tops anything I found.
I think I've got it.
Elnora A. Sloan's grandmother was Lucy M. (I couldn't find her maiden name). Lucy first married Charles K. Murphy and they had 3 children, Charles K, Mary I, and Emma A. Emma married Lewellyn L Sloan and they had one child - Elnora.
Charles K. Murphy (Sr) died between 1870 and 1880. Lucy Murphy is listed as widow on the 1880 census.
She married Nathaniel Seevy Post prior to the 1900 census where she is once again listed as widow.
...
Willis A. Post is the son of Nathaniel Seevy Post. Nathaniel first married Martha A. Hill and they had at least 7 children. Martha died 21 Sep 1887. Nathaniel then married Elnora's grandmother, Lucy.
So Elnora didn't really marry her uncle, just her step-grandfather's son.
OHHH MYYY, Congrats Marti! Amazing! :-))
No, I saw some of what you found, it was VERY good stuff!
I love a good search. Is this a relative?
No Marti, it is not, just some volunteer work I am fussing with while we are away for the winter. :-)))
