The Drive to Burns, Oregon, WHO Knew About This High Desert? The Estate Takes on Alaska

Wake to sun, low 50’s, and a great smell from the wet pine and fur needles on the ground here.

Concerns for Dorian mount.

Miles driven while visiting at Crater - 242.

Pulled out at 9:08

Some fog. Then burned off.

Bend, Oregon, lava flows.  Even in people’s back yards. I can see evidence of lava flows and such for miles.  There is a National Monument at Bend, if we ever get back this way, I hope it is still viable, I would like to visit. It reminds me of the area around El Malpais New Mexico.

Jumped on 20. All of a sudden. High desert. I feel the claustrophobia lift from my soul.  I can see for miles. MILES!

Yep, you can see forever - -

You can see forever, even with small rolling hills.

AHHHHHHH - -

Stop Hines/Burns for the night.  Fuel up, whew, we were low.  Nice lunch at a local bar.  Yummy.  Grabbed some groceries.  Checked into the campground and I took a nap!

We drove about 220 miles today.

From the internet - -
"Burns, Oregon is a city in and the county seat of Harney County,  Oregon. According to the 2010 census, the population was 2,806. Burns and the nearby city of Hines are home to about 60 percent of the people in the sparsely populated county, the largest in Oregon and the ninth largest in the United States."

Boy they were not kidding, all those miles, we would see just a house or two and maybe a few head of cattle, then, miles more of nothing but glorious high desert.
