This post will be back dated to the day of Millie's funeral, so that it may be linked to her in that way forever.
First, many thanks to all our friends and family. Messages, hugs, tears, flowers, and more, they all meant so much to us.
Millie was very proud of her 20 years of service to the Red Cross. It was a huge hunk of her life after becoming a widow in 1979. She worked many days, some of them VERY long days as the cookie and juice lady at blood drives, and yes, she caught a few that were passing out after their donation.
Man, late Saturday evening and early Sunday morning remembered her "Red Cross outfit", he thought it was a vest, but upon review of photos discovered it was the LANYARD. Saturday night I had searched the main floor of the house, and did not find a vest. Sunday morn, we realized we were looking for the wrong thing and started the search anew. I knew I had found her jacket, her awards, and some of the pins that were not attached to the lanyard. Digging more we found the teddy bear and the photo of her with the 4 high school young men. Had the photo of her with 3 other volunteer friends. Did not have the lanyard. Man went back to her apartment and FOUND IT!
Below is the honor board I put together for her and of course, for Man and our sons and other family. I used what I could find in the house, long hat pins to attach to the board, a bath hand towel in just the right color of red to display the pins and the Red Cross patch, teddy bear nurse for whimsy.
Thank you Millie for 20 years of service to the American Red Cross.
