Tis the season, only thing is, Man and I are still on the road working our way south and north, and I am not quite in the mood for Christmas, yet. (However, after a wonderful evening spent with cousin Marilyn, my holiday mood has blossomed. Thanks, Marilyn. More on this in a future post.)

So, I am going to do a sorta wordy wordless Wednesday type of post, here is our tree from the stick built, and the photo archives.

Wordless Wednesday, Misty Sunrise

Off the back deck, looking out over the swamp, sunrise on a misty foggy morn.  The leaves are down, clearing the view of the water in the swamp  (which connects to our pond - - sorta).  Now that we have had several killing frosts the algae is gone from the water's surface.  Today the pond and the swamp are quiet, the geese have flown south, the peepers are quiet as well (where do peepers go, into the mud?).

The season of quiet begins, resting up for the next season of rebirth and life.

As is frequently the norm, the reality of this hazy misty sunrise was much better in person than what the camera recorded.

*Ya, I know, not wordless.

MOC Rally, Day 6, The RainbowS, a Wordy Wordless Wednesday

Monday evening just before our pot luck dinner was about to begin we were gifted with rainbows.  Not just ONE, but, TWO!  Now rainbows are about as hard to photograph, in my experience, as it is to find that pot of gold, but, you know we tried and had a grand time trying.

Above, the rainbows stretched from one end of the horizon to the other, a glorious show.  In this photo, the second rainbow is hard to see, look above the more obvious one, it shows faintly as a red arch. The second did not have the brilliance of the first.  I enhanced this photo to get the colors to pop, and the gray may be a bit dark, however, it was not a sunny sky.

Here is part of the rainbow, you can see the purple at the bottom, blue, green, yellow, orange and then red.  This photo also has been darkened.

This is the very same photo, after telling the photo editing program to "auto enhance".  I love to play with the photos and see what the computer and programs might do.

The pot of gold must be somewhere behind this barn.

This was one of the nicest rainbow displays I have seen.  The MOC felt blessed.

Wednesday, Not Wordless, No Graphics, Just Rambling Along Wednesday

Today is Wordless Wednesday for many Genea-bloggers.  Linda of Flipside has a lovely photo again today.  I was able to answer Linda's with a photo taken at the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo, so it fit right in with my series of flora and fauna photos taken at the zoo.   If you know what that plant is, I sure would love to hear from you. 

Yesterday here at Reflections, I wrote about genealogy and it's close relationship with geography.  I was contacted last evening by one of my readers, Anne Marie.  Anne Marie is one of my genie angels, she helps me with some of my Virginia research, frequently passing on wonderful tidbits and hints.  Last night she wrote, asking me to share something with my readers here at Reflections, and her thoughts and ideas, as usual, are spot on.  I am happy to share her feedback with you.

So, Anne Marie, take it away (I have taken the liberty to slightly edit her email):

"Don't forget to also remind folks about that auto complete feature that a lot of new software uses. I've had researchers share things with me that must have used that feature or something similar. What should have come up as "Albemarle Parish Register, Surry Co, Va" ... Would instead turn out as "Albemarle, Virginia or Albemarle Co, Virginia".

I've also seen this happen with Franklin City, Virginia and Franklin County, Virginia being mixed up. This last one caused people to mix two families together that were not really even related.

So please be sure to take the time to check those auto complete lines as it could also lead to problems like you experienced when you have to recheck the work and spend hours in the wrong place."

In case you are wondering what she means by auto complete - - using RootsMagic 3, my data base, as an example.

When I am doing input and adding a place, as I start typing, the auto complete feature kicks in and gives me a suggestion.  If the place I want to add, is the place auto complete suggests, I can save typing clicks, and just accept the suggestion.  Onward, a time saving tool!  Wahhoooo.

However, in my data base, I have the following "Akron" places:

• Akron, Fulton County, Indiana
• Akron, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania
• Akron, Plymouth County, Iowa
• Akron, Summit County, Ohio
• Akron, Tuscola County, Michigan

It is pretty easy to see, that if I start typing Akron that I have 5 choices (currently) in my data base.  If I am not paying close attention, it is possible to input Akron Fulton County Indiana for say, Akron Tuscola County Michigan, by allowing the auto complete feature to do my thinking and input for me.

Missed a great photo op this AM, young deer, born this year, still some faded spots, having a bit of breakfast at the hydrangea.  Would have been a good photo, standing there with the flower in it's mouth.  Note to Carol, NOW you know why that bush tends to look a tad ragged and does not grow well.  SIGH. And, that is why there is no graphic on this post!

Wordless Wednesday, No Worts Linda, Just a Weed, a Day of Yellow

Linda, from Flipside, seems to love plants with names that include "wort" in the name. I told her, Linda, I don't have worts.  For some reason, she seemed to think that was humorous.  Glad that I could get her to giggle just a little, because her son is still quite ill and I am still praying for her family. 

So, today at Flipside, Linda posted for Wordless Wednesday, St. John's Wort, a beautiful yellow bloom. I offer, no worts, but, a weed, a pretty weed.  Found this growing near our home when we were out seeking a pulled pork sandwich.   The sandwich was yummy and the weed was pretty.

Wordless Wednesday, Flipside, Refections Has NO Answer Today

Well, Linda from Flipside got me today.  She posted her Jack-in-the-Pulpit today, as usual great photos.  But, alas, Reflections has no response, maybe I shall have to visit the nursery and see if I can find one to add to my own garden?

So, here is my offering of the day.  This small delight was growing in a berm at the grocery store.  I am sure many would consider a weed.  Name, unknown.  My reward for running errands??  Nice reward!

Wordless Wednesday, Flipside and Reflections Both Got Little Bity Bees

It is Wordless Wednesday, which means that Linda, of Flipside, and Moi of Reflections, play our little photo challenge.

Today Linda posted 3 lovely photos of Sulphureum Bicolor Barrenwort, the last photo has this little bity bee in it.  Good catch Linda.

Reflection's response:

At the stick we have about 3 acres of lawn we mow.  We have quite a collection of bushes, and trees.  When we were designing the yard we purposely left bushes planted by Mother Nature.  This is one of those.  I have never heard the name of this particular bush, common or botonical.  The blooms are 1/2 inch to 1 inch in diameter and are sweet smelling, the bees, of all sizes love this bush, as you can see.

*Ya, I know, NOT wordless.  Again, I fail at wordless.

Wordless Wednesday--Visitors in the Garden, Reflections Take, A Few Words

Flipside's Linda's Wordless Wednesday--Visitors in the Garden, has three great photos.  One has a bee on a flower, next is a butterfly and her last offering has 2 bugs (flies?) on a leaf (I am guessing a hosta leaf).  I am skipping the butterfly.

Wordless Wednesday, Reflection's Pond - Mirror Images

For this week's Wordless Wednesday, Linda from Flipside offers "Mirror Images", three great photos. Go have a look her photos, the one with the duck is fabulous.  Her photos just get better and better every week.

Man and I have a pond on the property at the stick built.  It is a natural hole in the ground formed by glaciers.  It is fed by rain and snow, no stream, no underground spring.  During years of drought it has dried up to less than 4 feet in diameter.  At the most, during a very wet year, we believe it was about 135 feet across.  Right now the pond is about 125 feet across, and is rather clear, in a few weeks, it will be covered with algae and green it will be!  Since it is clear, well, sorta clear, I was able to get a photo with a mirror image.
