Birthday Obsevances, Dorothy Agnes Butts, Where Are You?

Copyright 2010, CABS for Reflections From the Fence

Dorothy Agnes Butts, daughter of Albert Butts and his wife, Agnes Jackson Butts, was born August 25, 1905 in Harvard, McHenry County, Illinois.

Dorothy is found on the 1930 U.S. Census of Altona Village, Knox County, Illinois, ED 48-57, sheet 2A, page 282, she is a boarder in the home of John H. Larson and his wife Anna C.; Dorothy is 24 years of age, single, born Illinois, both parents born Illinois, teacher in high school.

Other than the 1930 census, little else is known about Dorothy.  I did find this great bio information from the 10th Edition (1977-78) of Who's Who of American Women:

"Butts, Dorothy Agnes, ret. educator, civic worker; b. Harvard, Ill., Aug. 25, 1905; d. Albert and Agnes (Jackson) Butts; B. A. summa cum laude, U. Ill., 1928, M.A., 1940; postgrad. And, that is the last I hear of Dorothy. Searching on the popular genie web sites has not turned Dorothy up again. SSDI, nadda.  A glance at Rootsweb.com World tree submissions does turn up a hit, but, the submitter does not know what happened to Dorothy either.  No entry on Find A Grave, yet.

She does have a headstone at the Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Dunham Township, McHenry County, Illinois.  As you can see, the end date was MIA when I was there several years ago.

I need to take the time to contact the cemetery and see if they have some information.  Maybe that is where she is after-all.

Anniversary Observances, Butts and Lovely, err, Lasore, err, Laseur

This is the Marriage Affadivit for Daniel Butts and Mary Lasore, err, Laseur, errr, Lovely.  (Her name is always a question mark, bad handwriting on documents, and it changes.  Hers is a LONG LONG story.  You may remember I mentioned her in this post, Tombstone Tuesday, Mary A Lashbrook, back in October 2009. Mary, err, MOMM - Mary of Many Marriages)

So, this is a second marriage for both Daniel and Mary.

Daniel was born about 1833 in Geauga County, Ohio to Joel and Mary E. (Churchill) Butts.  His first wife was Elisabeth Richardson; We are not quite sure what happened to Elisabeth, some day we will do some more work/research on her, review and redo.

Mary's first husband was Moses Lashbrook, we know they were divorced.  I have copies of those divorce papers and court cases and such, thanks to friend and fellow MOMM researcher, Michelle.   Interesting does NOT describe it.  Stay tuned, I am sure at some time in this blog I shall write more and more about MOMM, she is quite the number.

Daniel and Mary were married in McHenry County, Illinois on May 7, 1863 (remember, the graphic is the Affidavit, taken out the day before, marriage license and return are also in my possession).  By 1869 we find records for them in Iowa.  Twigs, well, actually, entire branches of the Butts and Lashbrook clans moved to Iowa together.  They settled in Bremer, Butler and surrounding counties.

Daniel and Mary were enumerated on the Waverly, Frederika Township, Bremer County, Iowa in 1870.  In 1871 we find a land transfer from Daniel and Mary, his wife to E. A. Kelsey.  This is the last sighting I have of Daniel recorded in my data base.

By 1872 we find Mary getting hitched up again, number 3 in her long line of marriages. She is found with hubby # 3 on the 1880 census.

Daniel and Mary had three children:  Annis or Anice L., Olive or Eve, and Thomas Oscar.

A marriage anniversary that is just a small piece of the puzzle of the story of Daniel Butts and Mary Lovely, errr Lasore, errr Laseur, errr MOMM.

Birthday Obsevances, Agnes Jackson Butts

Agnes (Aggie) A. Jackson was born April 26, 1870 in Harvard, McHenry County, Illinois to William Jackson and Mary Willis Jackson.

Agnes married Albert Butts, according to his obituary, they married on September 26, 1884 (place unstated, and no record has been found in Illinois).  A marriage was found on the Wisconsin Historical Society online marriage index, the date of that marriage is recorded as September 14, 1884 in Walworth County, Wisconsin.  No copy has been ordered to verify the date, but I am satisfied this record is indeed for this couple.

Albert and Agnes had 4 children, two daughters survived to adulthood.  In 1920 Albert passed and Agnes was shown on the 1930 U.S. Census of Harvard, Chemung Township, McHenry County, Illinois, as a widow who was managing a boarding house.

Agnes died on July 8, 1935 in Harvard, McHenry County, Illinois, and was laid to rest with her husband at the Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Dunham Township, McHenry County, Illinois.
