Grey skies to start. Heading around the Olympic Peninsula, 101 west, then south along the Pacific, then east.
A few stops along the drive to appreciate Lake Crescent - -
When the light or the direction I am looking changes, the color changes, now teal.
First stop, the Sol Duc area of the park. The sun comes out. The forest has very old and large Douglas Fir. The trees create a canopy. It is quite lovely, but, I am experiencing mild claustrophobia after so many miles of tree lined roads over the weeks in Canada and Alaska.
It also has Salmon Cascades. We stopped. Pretty spot. No salmon jumping.
Back out on the 101, the grey skies come back. We found a cafe for lunch, it was very busy. Waits for food were pretty long, it was good tho, especially the home made apple pie. We split a piece, good thing, it was huge.
Of course, there are bridges along the way. Did you know, I love old bridges like this? The color (rust?) on the top curved beams caught my artist eye on this one.
Skies mixed.
Stopped at Forks and went in the logging museum. Small, but, so nice! Met the fella that digitally cleaned up and enhanced so many photos. He does fine work and is currently full timing in a Montana.
This little tree has decided it is time for fall color coat - -
This museum does great work and the presentations were well done.
This is an example of the digital enhancement work, and it does not show off the craftsmanship of this gentleman. The photos were in a display, and, glare and reflections resulted while trying to take a photo. But, at least as important, look at the subject! I have never - - have you??
Some of you may know a bout the rock painting phenomenon that is racing cross America for the last couple of years. Well, the rocks have nothing on this conk or shelf fungi.
This 1923 cook stove was one of the largest I have ever seen. Ya all know how I feel about cooking, so the likelihood of me warming up a similar stove is about nil. Can you imagine cooking on this on a hot humid summer day?? My!
Yes, they had a display of chain saws - - of course - -
Camped for one night at Quileute Oceanside Resort & Campground, LaPush, Washington. Skies overcast, too bad, if it clears there could be a nice sunset.
My view out the front window of The Estate. That is the Pacific Ocean out there - -
I have no idea why - -
I know some rock painters that would be in heaven - - these were the perfect sizes and so smooth and flat.
Look how small Sir W looks in comparison to that tree.
The odometer shows we drove 172 miles yesterday and today. Yesterday, we estimated our visits around the Olympic National Park were about 100 miles.
