THE Trip, THE Encore' :: Trinidad California to Crescent City California, Sea Mist and Paul

Copyright 2014, CABS for Reflections From the Fence

On May 28, 2013 Man and I drove from Trinidad to Crescent City, California. NOTE: we are NOT in California today. This was well over a year ago.

It was a day of travel (all of about 60 miles) almost all of which was done through sea mist.

And, then there was Paul!

THE Trip, THE Encore': Houda Point, Camel Rock, and the Luffenholtz Creek Overlook Area

NOTE:  This day of adventure and exploring was done on MAY 26, 2013.  Well over a year ago.  We are NOT in California today.

Houda Point and Camel Rock, this area was much busier than Clam Beach.

Surfers, beach walkers, having fun:

A bit up the way, Luffenholtz Creek area, with a great overlook:

Caught Man in a reflective moment:

Sony Too and I cannot stop taking photos, even of the same views.

The large rocks in the ocean fascinate this east coast girl.  And, again, I cannot stop taking photos of them.

And, so our visit to the Trinidad California area ends.  Time to turn Tana north.

NOTE:  This day of adventure and exploring was done on MAY 26, 2013.  Well over a year ago.  We are NOT in California today.

While in Trinidad California area, we heard that there were several beaches and parks that must be visited.  So, off we went with friends Mina and HoboBob.

The tree of life, from the ocean:

Hard to beat Mother Nature, when she tucks in her flowers with sand and some drift wood:

We had several more beaches to visit, before this lovely day was over.

THE Trip, THE Encore' :: Patrick's Point State Park, Trinidad, California, Sumeg Village

Copyright 2014, CABS for Reflections From the Fence

NOTE:  We visited on May 23, 2013.  Yes, I am months behind on THE Trip, THE Encore' trip reports.  Yep, I am.

Patrick's Point State Park.

The rest of our visit was spent at the Sumeg Village, a recreated Yurok seasonal village.  The area in the park is considered a sensitive cultural area, as it is actively used to preserve traditions and to educate their youth. Signage asks that you stay out of the dance pit in particular, and since we were unsure which that was, we did not enter any of the structures, we peaked in and Sony Too got a look in a couple of them.  We tried to honor and respect the village.  On writing this post, I discovered this other site from the Redwood Parks Association, which shows a number of photos.  Have a lookie see, photo number 8 appears to be the dance pit, which we did not locate or see during our visit.

Some of the huts had very low entrances, and were dug out.  Some had flat entrances with flat floors inside.

Very low to the ground, this hut has a round door.

Man peaking in.

Sony Too took a peak.  Fire pit.

The construction always interests me.

Another hut.

This hut you walked down into a bit.

You can tell how low this hut is built when you see Man standing beside it.

More construction detail.

Patrick's Point State Park, as friend Mina said, a diamond in the rough, stunning scenery, history, many things to discover and enjoy.

THE Trip, THE Encore' :: Patrick's Point State Park, Trinidad, California, The Visit Continues

NOTE:  We visited on May 23, 2013.  Yes, I am months behind on THE Trip, THE Encore' trip reports.  Yep, I am.

Patrick's Point State Park.

While Man waited (see previous post), I took a few more photos from my vantage point.  OK, a lot more. I won't show you all, more rocks, more crashing waves, and this.  This is similar to one on yesterday's post, the zoom and angle a bit different, but so gorgeous, I had to include this one as well.  I hope you forgive me!

On the way back to the main path, this view gives you some idea of just how steep and dramatic the terrain is.

From here we continued along the main path till we found the cut off for Patrick's Point.  This section of the trail had brush growing overhead, like walking through a tunnel.

Our view, as far as we walked.  We sat.  I shot a bunch of photos.  We enjoyed.

This photo in no way does justice to the delicate color.  Does show the beautiful blue sky however.

I took several different shots, Sony Too zooming, or not.

Zoom:

No zoom:

Time to move on, however, when we get back to Jolly, who is that sitting next to us??  Why HoboBob and his wife, Mina, good RVing friends.  We were in the same park (yes, we knew that), but, had both been out and about running errands, and without knowing it, both ended up at Patrick Point State Park.

The dudes, HoboBob and Man.  Seriously studying something, probably had to do with trucks.  Comfy tree.

After our visit, Man and I headed over to Sumeg Village.  Coming soon to Reflections.

* A fine PDF brochure for the park can be found here, downloadable, of course.
