Organ Mountains At Sunset, With a Side of Roadrunner Trash Art, Winter Sojourn 2014/15

Copyright 2018, CABS for Reflections From the Fence

November 2014

I posted about 50 posts from our Winter Sojurn trip of 2014/15 during that trip.  I will now fill in the gaps of posts I wanted and intended to do, but, you know, time and energy restraints forbid such.  Besides, if I have a choice of going to see something new or rolling vs blogging, well, new and rolling win, despite the fact that I do enjoy my blogging.

Without further ado - - in November of 14 we found ourselves back in Las Cruses New Mexico.  One evening we revisited the rest stop on I 10 for a sunset and to visit the Recycled Roadrunner there.  We were unaware the roadrunner had been removed from the rest stop for some years.  Refurbished - it's back!!

First the sunset.  I chose to do no editing to these photos, color or otherwise.  These are right out of the camera.  Focus while hand holding with darkness setting in is questionable at best.  These are admittedly, not the sharpest, cleanest photos ever taken.  That said, we do love the Organ Mountains.  The color in this first photo is the tail end of the alpenglow effect.

See how, now the mountains are not glowing?

Almost like a horizontal rainbow, isn't it?

Handheld gone wrong/right.  I sorta like it:

ANDDDDD, here is the roadrunner:

The stand is new:

Zoom, what can we see?  Crutches, computer keyboards, something on his underbelly that makes me think "skid plate", lots and lots of shoes, some golf clubs.  What else do you see?

If you look hard at his head feathers you may see forks and a wisk.

Horses, trains, dinosaurs, and more electronics.  Maybe refrigerator cooling parts?

Long rest the Cannon, the video camera and the game machine.:

Some "do overs" are well worth the effort and are a lot of fun, this one was.

THE Trip, Organ Mountains and The Wind Mill, Las Cruces New Mexico

Copyright 2011, CABS for Reflections From the Fence

The love affair with the Organ Mountains continues.  The first photo was taken New Years Day, yes, that is snow on the mountain, and in fact, the section of the mountains with the "organ pipes", on the far left of this photo, are encased in clouds and cannot be seen.

This next photo was taken on the road that will take you to Dripping Springs.  Gene and Daisy heard I was in search of photos of the mountains without all those annoying poles and wires and signs and took us for a drive.  It was fab!!

Here is a closer shot of just the "organ pipes":

And, Man took an overall shot, with that panoramic feature on the Sony.  To get the full effect, you must click on the photo and then click your back button to return here to Reflections:

A bit down the road we stopped to take photos of this old windmill.

It was on this windmill that I got the photos posted over at Reflection's Flora and Fauna of, - - - - - - well, sneak over and have a look, Man and I just LOVE that last photo!  LOL

And here is the windmill with the Organ Mountains in the background.

I know, I have been taking a lot of photos of these mountains, and we hope to see a whole lot more, bigger and better, MORE MORE MORE, before THE trip is over. Heaven help us all, I wonder how many photos this Sony is good for?  LOL

* A HUGE thank you to Gene and Daisy, we had a wonderful afternoon, and no annoying poles and wires and signs!!

THE Trip, Organ Mountains, Las Cruces, New Mexico, Revisited

Copyright 2010, CABS for Reflections From the Fence

Yesterday Man and I drove to the end of Lohman Road here in Las Cruces.  Mission, get closer to the mountain, away from all the power lines, attempt to get a better photo(s).  There seems to always be some haze here, obscuring the mountains, just a little.  The end of the road is still a good 10 miles from the mountains.  It does not look that far viewed with the human eye, but, when you photo the mountains you need a lot of zoom and the haze makes itself known.  There were some great clouds yesterday to add a bit of interest.

Note:  I have edited these, sharpened a tad, auto correct, maybe a little contrast.  No color enhancements.  A bit of cropping, but you can still see power lines in the panoramic/wide shot (not taken with panoramic tool on the Sony).  I was able to crop them out of the close up (zoomed 20 times).  Remember that trick of clicking on the photo to see in a larger format, click your back button to return to Reflections.

I hope you enjoyed viewing these as much as I enjoyed taking them.  Today, if we drove out to the end of Lohman, I am sure the view would be totally different, clouded by a dust storm.
