Homer, Let's Do The Spit & A Museum: The Estate Takes on Alaska

No rain. Little fog/smoke. Nice coolish day.

We had a nice slow breakfast, I had what I call “thick brain”, and it took a bit to get me rolling.

We are at the "most westerly highway point in North America". Actually, in this photo we are about 1/4 mile from the end of the paved road.

We had to drive over this bridge to get here, it's not quite wide enough for two vehicles.

We drove to Homer. Lovely stop at the “top” before you roll into town. There is a visitors center, several gardens and great views!!

Look at the lovely flowers, peonies grow quite well here, they have some lovely ones, I was taken by this white and yellow one.

Someone is having a feast!

How bout the colors of this lily?

Drove right to the “spit”.  Sure reminds me of Nags Head in the 1970’s. Crowds, touristy stuff, places to eat and indulge. Add to that mix, several campgrounds, errrr, parking lots. Most with no hookups, some with great water front views. Close parking. And then add fishing industry.

Tent camping on the beach.

A oh so familiar sign post, how far is it to ???

Rigs everywhere, this is a very popular camping spot, this is just a few of the rigs we saw, some sites have power, others have a spot.  You provide the power, your water and go find a dump on the way out (the city has one). With fishing being so very very popular, lots of families want to be close to the boats and the action. And, of course, some bring their own boats.

We had a delightful lunch, great fish!  And next door, crepes!  Decadent does not even touch this!  We did share.

A visit to the beach so Sir W could have a walk and we could say he was pretty much on the Pacific. So, he has been on the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico and now here. Not bad for a four year old!

Next a fuel stop and on the museum. And it was a good one!

The Pratt Museum, Homer Society of Natural History.

I took this photo to show how small the Puffins are, smaller than a sea gull.

This to me was shocking, the is the Valdeze/Exxon oil spill.  That is the size of it.

This is the size of the same oil spill (see the shape is the same), and you can then overlay that on your choice of locality, I chose, of course, Michigan.  It reaches from the Soo in the UP of Michigan to almost the Ohio/Kentucky state lines!!

I found this beauty growing in one of the flower beds, I found it called Jacob's Ladder in another garden/nature area.

Back to camp.  And, down to the beach to see if we can find/see/spot any eagles.  I do believe it was a successful hunt.  I could not pick just one, so, here are several shots, same individual:

It was late, but, not late enough for a sunset, the sun really does not go down till 11 and there was no way I was staying down there, sooooo, here is the closest I will get to a sunset here in Homer/Anchor Bay.
