Wisconsin Dells, one of Man's bucket list items, and today it got checked as done.

We arrived for first tour.  A boat from a bus tour went out ahead of us.

This fella swam by as we waited.

Of the first two boats the Captains are women. Ours was on her second day on the job. She did well, cept had a spot of trouble docking those huge twin engine boats. She’ll figure it out. I have faith in her. She is young and bright.

Soft sandstone, carved out by water.

Yellow thunder was the Name of boat.  The boat was named for Chief Yellow Thunder.  Lived from about the Revolutionary war to just after civil war.  He has an interesting story, including the purchase of 40 acres of land which allowed his family and people to stay in the area.  I'll bet you can find lots more via a search of the net.

Witches Gulch. First stop. 5 minute board walk. Ferns.  My favorite part of the day.

As  I said - - the FERNS!!

And some delicate columbine.

Sand Rock was our second stop.

A lovely view - -

Just a small pretty yellow thing - -

One last photo of the area - -

After our boat ride we took Sir W for a walk along the river and found the River Walk Pub.  Sir W got to sit on the deck with us while we had our lunch.  Deep fried cheese curds and a Cuban sandwich. Good enough to eat. No photos. I was hungry.

Driving through Wisconsin I note that there are many farm fields still unplanted. Some are visibly wet, but why are the rest left fallow?  Closer to St. Paul seems more crops are in, corn about a foot tall. But, every where we have driven so far, there are so many fields unplowed.  In my memory, I just do not remember this many.

St. Paul/Minneapolis traffic at rush hour was rush hour traffic.  Enhanced by a burning delivery truck. Now. That guy was having a snarky day.

We drove to near Clearwater Minnesota. About 270 miles. Not a bad day considering we did not start driving till about 2 O’clock.

Long day, tired, Man really enjoyed his bucket list item.  Good stuff.
