A House is Not a Home Without A Yorkie - - And, His Name is Winston

Copyright 2015, CABS for Reflections From the Fence

I firmly believe this.

So, this week - -

Sweetness came to our home.

His name is Winston.   Due to a couple of ladies with fleeting hysterical memories, he almost became Watson, and then, Wilson.  Long story, but, we think his nickname may always be WWW.

He is 5.5 months old.  Weighs in at 3.1 pounds.

At home, considering the options.  Shoes or electric cords?  Parents are quickly adjusting to the less remembered little quirks that young puppies possess, and those teething issues.

The house is once again a home.  Translated that means, squeaky toys and milk bones cover the floor.  Keep the shoes on.

Woof!  Yorkies rule.  Man and I have been yorked!

Our Cappy Has Crossed the Rainbow Bridge

Copyright 2015, CABS for Reflections From the Fence

This last week Man and I accompanied the grandtwins to horse camp.  Sadly on Tuesday, our Captain Hook, aka, Cappy, passed.

Our last york, born in February of 1999, here he is Christmas of 1999.

He was the sweetest dog we have ever had the pleasure of sharing our lives with, but, he was camera shy. Even peaking around corners at us you can tell he does not like the camera.

Mom tried to get photos for Easter one year while in Tana, ya, he is sticking his tongue out at me.

After MANY snaps, I finally got this, marginally decent.  He still is NOT smiling at me.

He would hide if he thought I had intentions of bathing him.  I know he figured I could not see him.  Silly kid.

But, if you held food in front of his nose, he might cooperate.

Cappy visited the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific. He was within miles of the Canadian/USA border and the Mexican/USA border.  He was a well traveled pouch.

Our hearts are heavy, our home is empty.  This is the first time in over 30 years we have not had a yorkie to greet us with wild excited yelps when we return home.

Reflection's Week in Revue, the Critters

The gozlings are growing, they are at least twice the size they were at birth.  Here are mom and baby, who still has a bit of yellow around his head, down by the edge of the pond.  Ya, I know, you cannot see the water in this photo.

This cute little guy/gal paid a visit last night, he/she shall remain cute as long as he/she stays out of my flower beds.  He is about 6 foot from the edge of the flower bed, about 10 foot from the window.   I shot this from inside that window.  (I had to do some heavy duty adjusting/tweaking to this photo to get it sharp/in focus.)

And, who says an old dog cannot learn new tricks??  This is Gallagher, aka, Mr. G, sitting on one of my end tables!  He has NEVER done this before.  Maybe the bright late evening sun shining in was more than he could resist??  You can see, he was lying right IN the sun.

*Coming soon, more Iris photos.  My almost black but really a deep purple is starting to bloom, as well as some of the others in the Iris flower bed.

Living in Tana, Yorkie Grooming

Just cause we are living in Tana for the next few months does not mean we don't have every day chores to do, the garbage still needs to go out, gotta do laundry and sweep the carpet now and then  And, yorkies need grooming.

Here is how we accomplish the yorkie grooming.  Our not so willing, but, lovely model and narrator for the event, is Miss Tilly.
Above: First step, trimming ears (and paws) and total comb out.

Here I am helping Carol remove one of those nasty
sand burrs, right by my mouth.  Carol is good, got it out with no pain.

Uck, the wet part, soak me up and then suds me up,
and then rinse me clean.  A little cream rinse on the side please.

NOW, this is living, all clean, cuddling with Carol while I towel dry.

Yikes, the big doggie dryer is back in Michigan, so Carol uses
the portable dryer.  Ok, I'll fess up, I don't particularly like the dryer, period!

Here I am clean, dry, combed out and a fresh band
to hold my hair out of my eyes.  Glad that is over!

Thank you Tilly, you were such a good girl during your grooming session.

Tribute to yorkies loved

In my scanning projects I continually find photos I had forgotten I had. Once found the emotions run from "Oh, my, isn't that funny, look at those hairstyles, look at those clothes! SNICKER"" to "Oh, my, I remember, wasn't that a fabulous vacation, dog, friend, - -"

My blog is about my life, my love of family, friends, RVing, nature, flowers, family history and yorkies. So far, I really have not talked about the fur kids a lot, so, here is my tribute to another one of my loves, yorkies. The yorks that have come and gone in our lives.

The other day I came across this photo of our first yorkie (Yorkshire Terrier), Sebastian. (That is a fake mouse in his mouth, snicker, a Christmas present from his human gramma. He believed it was a real mouse and you were not going to tell him otherwise.)

Sebastian, 1986, not long after his adoption. His first camping trip! By the end of the weekend he had moved himself from sleeping in a crate at night to our bed. No more crates at night for Bas or any other yorks we have been owned by.

Then came Benjamin, sometime in 1987. Sebastian (on left) was the soul that made me love Yorkies, but Benjamin (on right) was the soul that stole my heart.

Here is Benjamin all grown up, about 1994. Benj was deathly ill as a young dog, we spent a lot of ca$h to save him. I lost 12 pounds and lots of sleep during his month long illness. This did not change his personality tho, he was a sweet york, but ALL york, and until you have been owned by a york, it is all but impossible to explain. They have the spirit of a dog many times their size and not much fear.

Ahhh, then Man and I met Abigail in 1997. Up till now, the yorks were my affliction. Abby took care of Man in about 30 seconds flat. He was a gonner, totally infatuated with her. I think you can see why, she was a real cutie, and had attitude plus. Minute she hit the floor at our house she told the cats just who was boss now!

Here she is posing as a show dog, about 1998. She believed she was the alpha animal of our household, and yea, she never understood that I also thought I was the alpha. She never stopped challenging me. Spirited she was.

These three yorkie spirits came into our lives, shared our home, taught us lessons and left us for the Rainbow Bridge. You know the saying, gone but not forgotten.

"Broken hearts are what give us strength, understanding and compassion. A heart never broken is pristine and sterile and will never know the joy of being imperfect." (Source of quote unknown.)
