Hillsborough River State Park, Florida, Revisited

Copyright 2014, CABS for Reflections From the Fence

A few days ago, Man and I revisited Hillsborough River State Park.  The first trip my ankle was still fairly sore and we missed seeing the suspension bridge.  We decided to go back, have another walk and find that bridge.  Sure glad we did. According to signage, the bridge was built in 1936 by the CCC.

Love this low hanging limb, Man posed to show you how low it does hang.

Sections of the trail have board walk, that is because the land is wet and swampy.

This spring flowering beauty, preferred the dampness, everytime I found it, it was near the banks or in the swampy areas.  I don't have the identification.  But, it just makes you smile, does it not?

Then, there was the pileated woodpecker. I shared his photo with you a few days ago, but, I am so over the top thrilled with the photos and the opportunity, I am going to share one again. Just cause.  Cause he is generally shy and cause he is beautiful!

Ankle is getting better, however, after a walk, I am always glad to sit down and rest it.  Nope, not 100% yet.

We were glad we did a revisit to the Hillsborough River State Park, and enjoyed our walk.

Hillsborough River State Park, Florida

A few weeks ago Man and I wandered over to Hillsborough River State Park.  The park came highly recommended. We needed a change of scenery, a drive in the sun and hoped to maybe find a short walk where I could exercise the ankle.  And, that is exactly what we did.  The park opened in 1938, it is one of Florida's first state parks and CCC Park.  They have a small but very nice museum too!  And, they do have a nice campground, we drove through, of course.

There is a one way road through the park, lots of spanish moss:

We wanted to see the river, but, of course, so, we parked and walked:

Once we found the river we did not hurry away, we enjoyed the abundant sunshine and the sound of the water.  Peace - -

Cedars and cedar knees along the shore:

We decided to walk along the river for a while, we encountered several areas with nice board walks.

The views were special, there were some great reflections, which you know I love.  You can see how bright the sun was from the top of the photo.  The reflection is nice, eh??  The water is dark in areas of the river due to the by products of those cedar trees.

The photos do not do justice to the quiet beauty of this park.  We enjoyed our short stop and walk.
